(28 October 2016, Hong Kong) Sponsored by New World China Land Limited (“NWCL” or “the Company”), the European Challenge Tour - Foshan Open 2016 has been successfully held on 20 to 23 October in Foshan Golf Club of Canton First Estate. This year’s golf tournament attracted a total of 126 golfers from 20 countries and regions. Marcus Armitage, a 29-year-old British golfer, won the championship with an aggregate score of 269, receiving a prize of USD$80,000 and 14 world ranking points. Among the 19 Chinese golfers entering the final round, Chen Zihao ranked 6th in the tournament and won the Best Chinese Golfer Award with an aggregate score of 274. 

Mr Xu Deli, Counselor of China Golf Association, Mr Wang Yuping, Secretary of Guangdong Provincial Sports Bureau, Ms Mai Jiehua, Vice-Mayor of Foshan Municipal People's Government, Mr Simon Leach, Director of European Tour (China), Mr Geng Shusen, Director - Southern China of NWCL, Mr Feng Xiong, Director of Guangdong Golf Sport Centre and Vice-Chairman and Secretary General of Guangdong Golf Association, Mr Huang Xianlin, Deputy Secretary General of Guangdong Golf Sport Centre and Deputy Secretary General of Guangdong Golf Association, Ms Li Yan, Member of Nanhai District Standing Committee and Secretary of the Publicity Department, and Mr Keith Hardman, General Manager of Foshan Golf Club attended the award ceremony. 

This year, Foshan Open, China Golf Association, European Tour and Golf Club Managers Committee also jointly organised the Foshan Open Cultural and Industry Forum. The Forum magnetised professionals from around the world to share industry news, successfully facilitating cooperation and promoting the popularity of golf in Mainland China. 

As one of the world-famous green events, Foshan Open has been dedicated to promoting environmental protection. This year, NWCL joined hands with charitable organisations including Let Birds Fly and Guangdong International Volunteer Expatriate Service (“GIVES”) to hold a 5-km Canton Charity Walk, encouraging participants to protect the natural environment and show their support to children with autism. In addition, viewing areas, intangible cultural heritage zone, sports challenge zone and eco zone were set up during the tournament. 

Foshan Open is Mainland China’s first international golf event that was named after a city. After years of development, it has become one of the most significant sports events in Foshan. The event not only shows the vitality of Foshan but also features the charm of Canton culture. Sports enthusiasts in Southern China place a high value on the event and regard it as an important platform for cultural exchanges between Guangdong and the world.
